Hey friends! Happy Friday to you all.
Lucy and her best friend have been at a Bible and music camp this week learning historic hymnody alongside Reformation theology (you know, as one does) and itâs been a busy few days of driving all over Godâs green earth. We have found our way to friendsâ neighborhood pools and a local waterpark, as well, and Theo is slowly overcoming his fear of the water, so itâs turned out to be a pretty nice week. Iâm slowly counting down the days until we have our annual girls trip to TybeeâŠ
In other exciting news, our softball team won the league championship on Monday night! We played a double headerâin which I literally crawled through the dirt to reach third at one point and we all sweated through our shirtsâand yours truly got the last game ball đ. I was so sad when it was all over; meeting new friends and chasing wins together was a major highlight for me this spring! Such good people.
Until next year, Team DyrtâŠ
Have a beautiful weekend, friends. Thanks for spending some of your time with me here!
Point #1: âMy life, in all its complexity and contradictions, is just too beautiful to give up to the Machine.â
Yes, yes, YES to all of this from
âs one-year update on leaving social media. Our experiences are very similar and she writes so thoughtfully about the challenges weâre all facing in the digital age. I find that since the introduction of YouTube Shorts (which is basically TikTok), I now struggle on that platform in the same way I used to lose time to Insta or Twitter. Le sigh. Itâs a constant recalibration, being online.Point #2: My daughter said my workouts look simple.
And they areâŠbut do them for twenty minutes and youâll be SWEATING! Iâve loved this momâs gentle-yet-effective approach to working out at home and I can already feel a difference in my body. My therapist once told me to find ways of âenjoyable movementâ instead of thinking of fitness as work, and this channel has been exactly that!
Point #3: Get out of the infinity pool.
How to turn your smart phone into a dumb phone, if thatâs what you need these days. (I do.)
Receipts from a No-Buy Year đ§Ÿ
Starbucks has offered a few summer specials on the app this week, so I earned a bunch more points than expected. I purchased my weekly Monday coffee and then snagged two more later in the week with points. Go me!
Iâve been drinking a ton of water now that I have this cup, but one of the goals I have in this no-buy(ish) year is to cut waste as well as consumption. Often these two things go hand-in-hand, but even when I buy coffee less I still use plastic cups because Iâm using my big one for water. During the grocery trip to Lidl this week I grabbed a venti-sized reusable cup and took it the next time I went to Starbucks. I look like this getting in and out of my car now, but hey, weâre saving the earth over here.
Coffee Cup: $5.06
I also bought a swimsuit when I ran out of the house one morning and forgot we were going to the pool that afternoon đ. I still have the Target one I bought and loved last summer, but it has faded a lot in just a few wears and looks pretty dingy now. Other than that, Iâve worn the same Victoriaâs Secret one-piece for nine years (and still love it!) so with this new purchase Iâll have two suits in my rotation for Tybee.
Swimsuit: $33.68
Total: $38.74

Gasser: (n.) Something outstanding.
Reading in The Nook đ
GUYS. I just finished the best book Iâve read all year. (And itâs a TRUE story!)
Harrison Scott Keyâs memoir How to Stay Married: The Most Insane Love Story Ever Told is a brutally funny, tender, and honest look at how he and his wife lived through years of infidelity and managed to survive. Iâve never laughed so hard while also crying, and I think every adult, married or single, needs to read this book. Itâs an absolute GEM.
What are you reading right now? đđ»
âSpring being a tough act to follow, God created June.â
âAl Bernsteinâ
