Hello friends and happy Friday!
I hope you’ve all had a lovely week. Ours has been full of visits with loved ones, exciting (potential) changes, and challenging conversations. The only low point was when Lucy woke up on Memorial Day with pink eye, so our plans to see friends that afternoon—including Lucy’s best bud—fell through. (And then she woke up on Tuesday with two pink eyes. Super fun.) Thankfully, I’m a rule-breaker who didn’t throw out Theo’s prescription eye drops from a few months back, so all is well.
Anyway, I have an interview today and I’m really excited about it! I’ll tell you guys more if I get the job, but would you be so kind as to pray for me in the meantime? I get performance anxiety like nobody’s business and interviews make me queasy.
Well. Now that you know all sorts of things about illness in the Nunnery family, let’s move on 🙃.
Point #1: When we know better, we have a responsibility to do better.
Hillsong has produced much-beloved worship music for decades. But given what we now know about the church’s abuse of power, it’s time to decide how we are going to respond.
Point #2: The kids are alright.
I dare you not to delight in this interview with the sweet boy whose morning routine recently went viral. Time for tea!
Point #3: Anne Frank changed my life.
Now, in this heartrending series, her courageous helpers get to tell their story.
Point #4: Women deserve Bible studies that challenge.
Here are some great tips on how to avoid getting stuck in social hour so you can access theologically-rich community.
Bonus Point: The fossilized clementine cuts deep.
What’s in your Mom’s Bag of Surprises? 😆
Reading In The Nook
Besides our June Book Club pick, Lessons in Chemistry (have you grabbed your copy yet?) I’m picking my way through two other books. It’s slow-going since both kiddos are home and our days are a bit fuller, but here are a few stories I’ve been enjoying recently:
Sisters of Sea View by Julie Klassen — It’s no secret that if I could live in Regency England and be friends with Jane Austen I would do it. (Preferably without the pesky misogyny and colonialism, thx.) Julie Klassen, who writes inspirational historical fiction that has both depth and little cheese, is an auto-read for me at this point.
The Sweet Spot by Amy Poeppel — When a baby that belongs to exactly none of them brings three very different women together, charm and chaos ensues. This novel feels a bit longer than it needs to be but Poeppel knows how to write engaging characters, so I’d still recommend it.
House + Home: Allowing the Spaces We Fill to Fill Us, Too
A few years ago, I penned this 7-day devotional designed to invite God into the spaces you inhabit so you can experience more of His goodness there. I’ve decided to share it with my Nook readers for free and I pray that it blesses you, wherever you are.
To download your pdf copy of House + Home, just click here. If you prefer a print copy, you can always purchase that here for $6.99.
